I had a reservation at the Best Western Plus, for August 9, 2013. At approximately 4:00 that afternoon, I called the hotel to ask if there would be any problem checking in later that evening. I was close by but had other plans and would have preferred to not check in at that time. The woman I spoke with assured me that would not be a problem.

When I checked into the hotel at 9:34 PM and went to my room, I discovered that my room was located next to the elevator. I returned to the lobby to attempt to change my room due to my concern for noise. "Lena", the front desk attendant, said that all the rooms "at that level" were filled and they had no other room available because they were booked and that we had checked in so late. I asked her to define what "level" meant, but she never explained it to me. I informed her that I had made the reservation several weeks earlier and had also called that afternoon. I also told her that I hadn't notified that the location of my room depended on what time I actually checked into the hotel and that the hotel was booked to capacity. Since she seemed unwilling to help me further and demonstrated what I can only describe as a serious lack of concern, if not downright rudeness, so I asked to speak to the manager. She said there was no manager on duty, so I asked her to call him. She left the front desk and returned shortly thereafter accompanied by "Kevin". He stated that the hotel was full because of the Raiders football game. I told him that this would have been good information to have had at 4:00 when I initially called the hotel. The encounter was indescribably frustrating and not what I would have expected at a Best Western hotel.

In all the years I have stayed in Best Westerns, I have never been treated with such distain and a general lack of respect as I encountered that evening. When I had breakfast the next morning, the staff in the dining room was much more professional, courteous and friendly than your two employees at the front desk.

Interestingly, my room was lovely and I was not disturbed by the elevator. Because of my experience with Lena and Kevin, however, I will be reluctant to stay at a Best Western in the future. I understand that if a hotel is booked, alternate rooms would not be available. This was not an issue of availability but one of courtesy and professionalism.
