Greetings Aldi's Management,

Today I had the absolute most embarrassing and humiliating time at your location in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
I got to your store at roughly 3:30PM on 01/07/2014 Wednesday. All was good until I reached the checkout area. This is where the nightmare began. Me and my wife where in line at register #2 and after waiting approximately 10 minutes the cashier (Nerla) got off her stool and advised the entire lane that we should move to register #5 since that was now open. Me and my wife went as instructed to register #5 along with 3 other customers. We were the first in line so I was glad that we moved or I thought. After waiting 10 more minutes and no one showing up and the customers behind me at register #5 beginning to abandon the new line. I walked back over to register #2 where the cashier (Nerla) was at and politely asked her, "Excuse me ma'am; you had me and my wife move over to register #5 and no one is there. She looked at me with contempt and replied, "What's wrong with you, You don't hear me ringing the bell; she'll be right there.!" After that remark I held my own since I noticed she was pregnant and did not want to upset her even if her response was less than professional and appropriate. I walked away since I did not want any more backlash from this cashier. The customers in that line even looked at me in dismay as to what was happening. I returned to the line at register #5 when finally seeing that the cashier that I was waiting to tend to that register #5 was outside of the building on her cellphone and another young lady went to get her to what I thought was to take care of register #5. Well this young lady came over to the register took out her cash drawer and walked into the front office saying; "I'm on break" and leaving us still in the same line. The young lady that went to get that cashier then came over to me and my wife and said, "You can start emptying out your cart now someone will be here in a second." So again I did as I was instructed and unloaded my groceries. Now 20 minutes had passed and still no cashier and now all my groceries were on the conveyor belt to be checked out. By now the customers that were behind me had been replenished by 3 new customers that made a line behind me hearing that the young lady instructed me to unload my cart. After waiting another 10 minutes and looking around the front of the store for the manager and no where to be found. Another manager came to the register (Ernest). He only said that it would be a few more minutes since he couldn't log in to the register with his password. He walked away and again believe it or not me and my wife were again in limbo. I had the customers behind me asking what happened and I just looked at them and shrugged my shoulders in disbelief myself. Now 30 minutes had elapsed and I finally saw the store manager (Otto) restocking merchandise in the 5th aisle so I darted to get him to assist. After I quickly explained the lack of urgency at the front of the store, he said: "I'll be right there" and you know what; he never came to aid not even check into what had happened. By the time I got back to the line where my wife was still standing with our groceries, we were the only customers waiting in an empty line with our groceries on the conveyor belt. The cashier at register #2 (Nerla) that had originally told us and other customers to go to register #5 turned around to look at us still at register #5 and just smirked at us as if to say, not my problem or fault on what was going on.
At this point my wife just basically said we should just leave and that's when the other manager (Ernest) came back and opened the register and started to finally check us out. I asked (Ernest) why did this happen and he replied; "I'm the manager and if you have any issues then you should direct them to me". I looked at him very puzzled since he was one of the reasons we were still in line for now 40 minutes. Apparently a mass confusion on who was going to tend to register #5 and the lack of leadership of management to take responsibility for the lack of customer service at the front of the store.
The store manager (Otto) which I attempted to ask for aid and never showed up to the front of the store was still stocking merchandise and in my experience in Retail; while it is important to lead by example, you don't send out the most valuable Primary player to do the labor work of what a secondary or trishiery employee could also do. The responsibility of a store manager is to delegate his authority and take care of the overall store experience. His lack of proper management is another reason why this visit fell apart. The abrasive way I was spoken to by the cashier (Nerla) was extremely unacceptable. The young lady that instructed me to unload my groceries (didn't get her name) came up to me while I was bagging my groceries and I asked her for the name of the cashier at register #2 and she responded, "Did something happen?" I just looked her and replied, "You were here, you know what happened". She smiled and just walked away. Finally the lack of proper communication and fundamental leadership from the other manager (Ernest) was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I shop here every week and spend an average of $125,00 every week. I've included my cash register receipt as proof of not only what I purchased but the time stamp to when I finally left the store. While I truly believe that Aldi's would survive without my weekly shopping list. I also have to believe that if this happens to a few customers then the word would spread and then upper management would now be looking for answers.

By the time me and my wife were in our vehicle heading for home which we didn't want to get stuck in traffic that's why we came in to Aldi's in the early afternoon versus late afternoon or evening. It is now 7:31PM, after getting caught in the east to west traffic of almost an hour. My frozen groceries are mush and my poultry and other groceries have leaked all over the trunk of my vehicle. I had to throw away almost a ¼ of my groceries away. Now that in itself is ridiculous.

After typing this long synopsis of what has occurred here today I expect an upper management response to this situation within 24 hours or the latest 48 hours of sending this message.

Govern Yourselves Accordingly,

Mike R.
