I took possession of my rental car on May 4th, 2015 at San Francisco International Airport from Thrifty Car Rental-DTG Operations, Inc. The agent disallowed any considerations of insurance coverage because I was not in possession of my current state automobile insurance identification card. That card I was obliged to leave my automobile at home as a matter of state law. I have never been asked to produce and insurance card for the purpose of rental a vehicle before. The agent claimed that it was a matter of California state law, Yet, friends of mine who I joined up with in California, informed me that they had rented twice with another service during the time of their stay there and were not asked for insurance ID cards. Hence, the vehicle was let without insurance, with a caution that I was subject to having the vehicle impounded should I be stopped for an infraction. The gate agent who reviewed our documents upon departure failed to do a walkaround to inspect the vehicle and check for prior damage. I had to deal with this issue upon returning the vehicle in Seattle. When I reached my hotel in Emeryville, CA, just outside of SF, I called my home and obtained the information I needed to reach my insurance company which faxed a confirmation of my coverage in force to the hotel so that I would at least have it in my possession should I be stopped by law Now tell me that the agent in SFO couldn't have asked me to attempt to do that while standing at his desk. Apparently he didn't care to be too accommodating.

The GPS we included in our rental failed to operate properly. It was programmed for kilometers, not miles. It never gave me the route I preferred and was always directing me to exit inappropriately. At one point it kept on asking me to turn around and go back the way I came so as to follow the route it had programmed. Fortunately I know how to read maps. I am waiting to hear from the company regarding their 'need to inspect' the unit and advise me of their findings. The vehicle was returned to Seattle on 5/13/15. It is now 5/18/15. I'm not letting this matter go. I intend to dispute this through American Express Company if my refund is not forthcoming.
