We live close to Dollar General in Eureka Springs, AR. We frequent it fairly often. A few months ago I went there to buy diet coke. In front of the store the display says $6.50 for a diet coke cube. I told the clerk I could not find one. He replied they did not have any. I then asked if I could substitute
two 12 pkgs? He said no. I then suggested he take the sign down. He told me he was not allowed to touch the sign. It was provided by coca cola. Yesterday, February 1, we received a flyer from Dollar General in our Sunday paper. Dr. Pepper products 3 12 pks for $9.00. Since that is what my husband drinks I went there at 9:30 am. There were only two 12 pkgs of diet dr pepper in the store. I did put them in my cart. When I got to check out I asked if they had any more. The checker said no. That is all we have. She told me I could not have them on sale since you have to buy three to get the sale price. I offered to get a regular dr pepper to complete my order. Guess what ....there were no regular dr pepper 12 pkgs either. I then asked if I could substitute two six packs of dr pepper (any kind). I was told no. That is not allowed. You know, the way I see it, you can advertise many GREAT specials.
You don't carry the really good ones for your customers to purchase. Sounds like a pretty good practice. Your Dr Pepper special had only been running 1 1/2 hours and you had NONE in the store. I asked when more would be delivered. The clerk told me next week. I asked "when it goes off sale?' She just looked at me. This is false advertisement and it has happened many times....no worries, I am not going to try to sue you. I just want you to know that we are good customers of your store. We pay our bill when we shop there. You should have what you advertise. Once in awhile is understandable, making a practice of not having what you advertise is not good business. You hire people that work hard and you put them in an uncomfortable situation.
