I booked two nights at the Days Inn in Sarasota, two months in advance. It was a business trip. The booking was not refundable. I understood that it was not refundable and that no changes could be made. However, my circumstances changed and i was going to be unable to be there until Saturday. As any normal person would do, i called to at least try to see if i could just keep the one night. Otherwise, i would lose the money & have no place to sleep on Saturday. I was told by customer service that i COULD keep the one night, but that it would cost more. I agreed to the higher price. The money wasn't the top priority. Having a place to lay my head on Saturday was. Sure enough, when i arrived on Saturday i was told that i was considered as a no show on Friday, therefore i had no room at all. There was not a single room to be found within a 100 mile radius. Not one. I ended up sleeping in my car. To add insult to injury, i got home to find that they've charged me for both nights!!! I'm now being given a run around about refunding my money. They've claimed that i'll be refunded for ONE night (although that hasn't happened yet). I'm sorry, but the mix up occurred when their own customer service people told me that i would have a room. If i had known that there would be no room, i would have made other arrangements prior to the trip. Who wouldn't??? Sleeping in my car, alone, in a strange city is unacceptable. And it wouldn't have happened, had their representative told me that i could not change the reservation. I would have gladly paid for two nights by phone, in advance, just to know that i had a room for that one night. Their lack of customer care placed me in a very dangerous situation. They are not out one penny. They have been harmed in no way & yet they are keeping my money. I'm not finished with this yet & will take them to court if i have to. It's a principle issue. In retrospect, i was better off in my car. The hotel at 5000 Tamiami Trail in Sarasota is in a very questionable area. Do NOT book at this hotel.
