The Days Inn entrance lights were not on when we pulled in. My first notion was that the hotel was shutdown. In case there is any question it was definitely dark enough for the lights to be on. After we drove down the hill to the hotel I immediately noticed the 6 foot high/15 yard long retaining wall that was rotting in multiple places. It is definitely an eyesore and more likely than not very weak. As we approached the lobby we immediately smelled smoke. That was because there was a person smoking there. I don't blame them as there is an ashtray right next to the entrance. We aren't smokers. The person that checked us in was not even a little enthusiastic. A smile and a "hello" go a very long way. The hotel elevator was very small and there was graffiti and heavy scratching on the panel with the floor lights on it. The hallways to the room were not very bright or welcoming. Our first room smelled badly of smoke even though it was a non-smoking room. There was a sign on the door that stated "non-smoking". When I turned on the bathroom light, it was flickering badly like you were in the movie "The Shining" and never turned on. On the no-smoking card in the room there was a disgusting white residue. The AC unit louvers were broken in a couple of places and when the unit came on it smelled like it needed to be cleaned. The top of the head boards of the beds were coated in dust. So to say the least, we asked for another room. As we approached the 2nd room the AC unit in the hall wall was banging pretty loudly. The room was not that much better. The best part was that it did not smell as badly of smoke and seemed a bit cleaner. The tops of the headboards were still coated with dust. The AC unit thermostat door was broken. It came off in my hands when I went to lower the temperature. Once the room reached temperature it would not cycle back on until it was at least 10 degrees over thermostat setting. The AC was not set to "automatic". I had switched it to manual. Needless to say the room was not comfortably cool as it should have been on a muggy summer's day. I chose not to call the desk at 10:30pm at night as we were exhausted and my kids had fallen asleep. My husband and I however did not fall asleep in a reasonable time as we should have because we were uncomfortable and extremely disappointed. Long story short....I will never stay at this hotel again...I have stayed at Day's Inn's before and left with a good experience. I have lost confidence in this company. This was the worst hotel experience we have had in our lives. If there is any question we have stayed in a number of hotels for work and on vacations.
