Original Comment this is a Email sent out by your Mid-Atlantic office to your members I understand the Deputy's Y'all are talking about don't stop speeds until they are going 85 miles per hour can you explain why you are against this.<br /> EMAIL<br /> <br /> Policing-for-profit is a realityin a few Virginia communitiesand AAA thinks that's wrong! We believe it is inappropriate for law enforcement to focus primarily on revenue generation rather than protecting and serving their communities.<br /> We need your help NOW to curtail this practice! Budget language is currently being debated in the General Assembly to sharply limit the use of police by a few communities to bolster local revenue.Please click the &quot;;LEARNMORE&quot; button below to send a short note to legislators urging them to end this practice by passing the necessary budget amendment. <br /> Hopewell's notorious speed enforcement program, dubbed the &quot;Million Dollar Mile,&quot; is perhaps the best example. It employs 11 sheriff's deputies who work 14 hour shifts to write citations along a 1.7 mile stretch of I-295. Safety experts say no safety issue there merits extraordinary attention. Worse, such schemes damage the credibility of the vast majority of Virginia's police and sheriffs' departments which work diligently to protect public safety.<br /> As the nation's premier traffic safety advocate for over a century, AAA understands that speeding is dangerous and those who speed should be ticketed; however, traffic enforcement should be conducted for safety purposes where and when there is a documented safety problem. <br /> Thank you in advance for your consideration.PLEASE ACT NOW to help us keep policing in Virginia focused on public safety, not revenue-raising.
